Dairy Exporter - May 2010

NZ Dairy Exporter Now A4
Worm wonderland
Using worms to turn dairy effluent into a light amber liquid
that's almost clean enough to drink sounds like a tall tale in an Irish bar.
But it's happening, right in the heart of Southland on a Centre Bush dairy farm.
Milk price to be all-important
A transparent, accurate milk price and a limit on rights
sold into the Fonterra shareholders fund will be critical to the success of the
co-op's step three in capital restructuring - trading among farmers.
Step three - you pay for it
Step three of Fonterra's capital restructuring moves the
co-op further away from being focused on benefits to members and closer to the
day when it will be demutualised, according to an expert on cooperatives.
Voice of experience gives approval
Former Kiwi Dairies chairman John Young has endorsed
Fonterra's trading among farmers proposal as a positive step forward.
Competitive advantage ‘given away'
The Emission Trading Scheme (ETS) should be delayed because
it needs more research, according to Dr Doug Edmeades, rural affairs spokesman
for the New Zealand Climate Science Coalition.
