Dairy farms fetching average $35,500/ha
Around 40 dairy farms were sold in the three months to July at prices the Real Estate Institute (REINZ) described as good news.
Rural spokesperson Peter McDonald said the average national price of $41/kg milksolids (MS) and more than $35,500/ha was a good result. The average dairy farm sold in the period was 147ha with production averaging 904kg MS/ha.
But the biggest battle facing the rural market is continuing uncertainty over the level of the New Zealand dollar.
There was a reduced turnover of all farms, with 229 sales for the current period compared with 601 in the same period last year. There were 285 sales in the three months to June this year.
Nine dairy farms sold in the Waikato, eight in Northland, five in Southland, four in Canterbury and the West Coast, two in the Bay of Plenty, Taranaki, and Manawatu/Wanganui and one each in Auckland, Wellington, Nelson/Marlborough and Otago.
