Radio begins
The opening of the new broadcasting station [1YA] at Auckland on the evening of Saturday, August 7, heralds a new era in wireless broadcasting in New Zealand and is a departure which will be appreciated not only by thousands of New Zealand listeners but by many listeners in Samoa, Rarotonga and other South Sea Islands, and also in Australia as well. The programme broadcasted on the evening was of exceptional interest and was of such a varied nature that even the carping newspaper critics, whose weekly notes in many New Zealand newspapers have done much to retain popular interest in the fascinating science of radio, could not possibly find an opening for adverse criticism.
